17 Hill Stations You Must Visit to Escape The Brutal Sun This Summer!


Starting from the crown state of Jammu and Kashmir to Tamil Nadu, the Indian sub-continent is dotted with awe-inspiring hill stations. From the misty valleys of Wayanad to the soothing lakes of Nainital, here are a few of India's favourite hill stations.


1. Ooty - get lost in the mile-long tea gardens



"Excellent hilly and green place to refresh yourself from the hectic life. The place is great with awesome mountain views and especially the toy train ride is just superb. A good place for a family outing or romantic outing. A place to taste the variety of tea.”

2. Manali - get your dose of adrenaline

Shimla is cooler than plans and we can reach by train too. Lots of things to do like heritage walk, flower lawns etc. I found Institute of Advanced Study is the best place to visit in Shimla. Kufri is good for kids. Mall road walk is good for kids who love to run.”

9. Mahabaleshwar - go boating at the Venna lake



If you want to get out from the hectic work schedules and the din't of city life which gets on your nerves. Head into nature's lap to the quiet and green environs of Mahabaleshwar. Nestled in the Sahyadri hills, Mahabaleshwar provides an ideal getaway to soothe frayed nerves and provide solitude away from the pollution and noise of city life.

10. Srinagar - try the Shikara ride on the Dal lake



Srinagar is the summer capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and is known for its pristine natural beauty. There is also a tulip garden but it's not open all around the year. Hiking enthusiasts may climb up the hill overseeing the city to visit the Shankaracharya temple which provides a spectacular view of the city below.


11. Katra - hike to the temple of Vaishno Devi



“Katra is the city where you start Shri Vaishno Devi padayatra. The city has a good market, a lot of choice for food items. It's trail of approx 12.5 km one way. But it's not much steep. So if you have good endurance level, you can walk through.” 

12. Mount Abu - marvel at the beauty of Nakki lake



Mount Abu is epic place wherein you would get world famous temple, delusions food and awesome wheatear. You would have get here Rajasthan and Gujarat mixed culture, nice local people's very corporative also.


13. Darjeeling - pick tea in the estates



The queen of the hill of West Bengal is Darjeeling. Fantastic sunny weather, clear sky all together make the trip wonderful. Ecstatic sunrise over the Kanchenjunga from tiger hill fulfilled the trip. The mall, tea garden, zoo, ropeway, toy train, Keventers, Glenary's all together made our Darjeeling trip a memorable one.

14. Yercaud - relax and unwind



The various viewpoints are a treat by themselves. You can soak into the beautiful clouds, and feel divine. My partner and I stayed at the Rock Perch and we were enthralled by nature, which gave us the best.

15. Wayanad - enjoy and feel God's own country's unpolluted breeze



One of the best place that I had ever been in India. The environment over there is so calm and scenic that you will forget your daily hustling city life.

16. Nainital - row a boat amidst the alluring Naini Lake



A place of tranquility amidst chaos is a desperation of escape from monotony and rut. Coming up to the altitude of this lake city, people of all faith find a way to connect to divine and Nature together as one, be it in the clanging bells of temple or aroma of burning candles in church or in the serene silence of understanding Himalayas. Lonavala is an amazing place, a hill station. Best time to visit Lonavala is in summer obviously. I visited there with my family, it was great fun there. The atmosphere in Lonavala is just breathtaking, it's calm it's cool, it is just perfect for a great escape, from your daily monotonous life.
